How It Works

Step-by-Step Claim Pathway

Understanding the DVA claim process helps reduce uncertainty. Here's how it works when you pursue a mental health claim with Zed3's support:

Health Professionals
01

GP Referral

Your journey begins with a referral from your general practitioner. Your GP assesses your mental health concerns and refers you to a psychiatrist for specialist evaluation. We ask for a referral to allow our psychiatrist to do an assessment that leads to a letter back to your treating GP – we want treatment to be considered alongside compensation. We can typically have you booked in within 2-4 weeks of receiving your referral.

Initial Assessment
02

Psychiatric Assessment at Zed3

You'll meet with one of our experienced psychiatrists for a comprehensive assessment. This detailed evaluation explores your whole life, including your service. This assessment will result in a letter for your treating GP with treatment recommendations and diagnoses. The assessment takes 60 minutes.

CER Letter
03

CER letter

We provide you with a Compensation Encounter Request (CER) letter with provisional diagnoses which you can use to lodge a mental health claim with DVA.

Hours of Operation
04

Clinical Claims Specialist Appointment

Once DVA send us your DVA report request, you will be booked in with a clinical claims specialist (CCS). In this approximately 90-minute appointment, they will ask more about your service directly and gather further information.

Funding Approval
05

Draft report

You will receive a draft report to review to ensure your experiences have been captured accurately.

Final File Review
06

Final file review and completion

Our head psychiatrist performs a comprehensive review and sign-off your report.

Submission to DVA
07

Submission to DVA

Once all documentation is complete, we submit your report to DVA.

Timeframes

How Long Does It Take?

Timeline expectations help you plan ahead and reduce anxiety during the claims process. While each claim is unique, here's what you can generally expect:

Initial assessment booking:

Typically, within 2-4 weeks of referral, depending on clinician availability and your location (telehealth or face-to-face).

Report preparation:

Comprehensive psychiatric reports are usually completed within 2-3 weeks of your assessment. Complex cases requiring additional evidence may take longer.

While these timeframes can vary, Zed3 helps move things forward smoothly by providing thorough, evidence-based documentation that meets DVA standards from the first submission, reducing the need for follow-up requests and delays.
