Accessing ReviveMed: Referral, Eligibility & Funding

We're here to help you understand the process for infusion therapy. This page explains how to access ReviveMed, with clear steps covering eligibility, required documents, referral pathways, and funding options.

Accessibility

Who Can Access ReviveMed?

ReviveMed is available for people living with treatment-resistant mental health conditions, specifically depression, PTSD, suicidality, that haven't responded adequately to conventional treatments. This includes anyone facing complex mental health challenges, including veterans, serving ADF members, first responders, and private patients.

Clinical Eligibility is determined through comprehensive medical assessment, which considers:

Medical History and Previous Treatment Attempts

Medical history and previous treatment attempts

Current Symptoms and their Severity

Current symptoms and their severity

Treatment Resistance

Treatment-resistance

(usually defined as inadequate response to at least two conventional treatments)

Safety Considerations and Contraindications

Safe and Supportive Environment

Treating team involvement

A referral from your GP and treating psychiatrist is required to begin the eligibility assessment process. This ensures patient safety and confirms that infusion therapy is clinically appropriate for your circumstances.

For eligible DVA and Defence patients, there are no out-of-pocket costs. Learn more about veteran-specific pathways on our Veterans Services and ADF Support pages.

Required Documents

DVA Mental Health Assessments

ReviveMed - GP Referral form

How It Works

Referral Pathway: How It Works

The referral pathway for ReviveMed follows a clear, step-by-step process designed to ensure clinical suitability and patient safety. If you would like to have an initial discussion with one of our clinical team members to determine potential eligibility, please contact us to arrange a brief telephone call:

Health Professionals
01

GP & Specialist Referrals

Book an appointment with your GP and specialists to discuss your mental health concerns and treatment history. Explain that you're interested in exploring infusion therapy for treatment-resistant symptoms. Ask them to provide a referral letter to Zed3 outlining your diagnosis, previous treatments, and clinical need.

Initial Assessment
02

Submit Documents to Zed3

Forward your referral letter, Mental Health Care Plan (if applicable), and any supporting clinical records to Zed3. Our administration team will confirm receipt and advise if any additional information is needed.

Funding Approval
03

Clinical Review & Suitability Check

Our medical team reviews your referral and clinical history to determine whether infusion therapy is appropriate for your circumstances. This review considers your primary diagnosis, treatment resistance, medical contraindications, current medications, and overall suitability. It also requires the formal adherence to a Clinical Care Agreement from a treating psychiatrist.

Treatment Sessions
04

Initial Consultation Scheduled

If suitable, you'll be contacted to schedule your initial medical assessments. This will consist of at least two appointments of 60 minutes duration, the first with a Registered Nurse, and the second with a psychiatrist. These assessments include detailed discussion of your symptoms, treatment history, mental health goals, and any questions you have about the infusion program.

Hours of Operation
05

Begin Infusion Program

Following your medical assessments, if infusion therapy is recommended, your treatment schedule will be arranged (following funding approval if required – DVA/Defence). Most programs begin with a series of infusions over several weeks, with ongoing monitoring and adjustment based on your response.

Funding & Rebates

Funding & Rebates

Understanding funding pathways helps remove financial barriers to accessing ReviveMed. Several options may be available depending on your circumstances:

Medicare Rebates

Medicare provides rebates for psychiatric consultations, anaesthetist fees, and some psychological services. Medicare rebates do not apply to the infusion procedure itself. The ReviveMed team can explain which services qualify for Medicare rebates during your consultation.

DVA Pathways

Veterans may access infusion therapy with no out-of-pocket costs.  If eligible for treatment, the ReviveMed team will prepare and submit an application to DVA to have your treatment (and possibly travel costs) covered.

Defence

Current serving personnel who are approved by Defence for treatment will have their costs covered in full.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on your policy level and fund, private health insurance may provide coverage or rebates for psychiatric services and some of the anaesthetic services involved with the infusion. Private health insurance will not cover the hospital admission or ReviveMed program fee.  We recommend checking with your insurer about coverage for infusion therapy and associated consultations. Zed3 can provide documentation needed for insurance claims.

Out-of-Pocket Costs

For patients without DVA coverage or private health insurance, out-of-pocket costs will apply. The exact costs depend on your treatment program, number of infusions, and ongoing psychiatric care requirements. For detailed fee information, visit our clinic-wide Fees & Rebates page or contact our team for a personalised cost estimate.

How Long Does the Process Take?

Timeframes are case dependent and may vary across our Canberra, Wagga Wagga, and Adelaide locations based local demand and clinician availability. We maintain transparency about wait times and support you throughout every step of the process.

Next Steps

Next Steps: How to Begin ReviveMed

Starting infusion therapy involves a few straightforward steps to ensure clinical suitability and coordinate care:

01

Eligibility

Infusion therapy is typically recommended for treatment-resistant mental health conditions where conventional approaches haven't provided adequate relief. A comprehensive medical assessment determines whether the treatment is appropriate for your circumstances.

02

Referrals

Patients need a referral from their GP and treating psychiatrist, as well as have an ongoing treating psychologist, to access ReviveMed. Your referring doctors should outline your treatment history and current mental health concerns. All patients must have and be actively engaged with a treating psychiatrist, psychologist and GP to support you throughout your treatment.

03

Funding Options

Depending on your circumstances, funding may be available through DVA (for eligible veterans), Defence or State-funded insurance. Our team can discuss funding pathways during your initial assessment.

04
