Caryl is a General Adult Psychiatrist currently working in NSW Health as a Consultation Liaison Psychiatrist in Sydney. She was the CL psychiatrist on the State Wide Burns Unit for 5 years and developed interest in trauma and PTSD as well as underlying interest and expertise in the diagnosis and management of mood and anxiety disorders.  She holds an Academic position as Associate Professor in Psychiatry and is the Director of the Sydney Medical Program, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney

Caryl gained her medical degree at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, University of London in 1993 and moved to Australia where she completed her postgraduate training in Psychiatry, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 2001.

Caryl completed her Doctorate in Medicine from UNSW, Sydney in 2010. The thesis topic was on the role of the Internet in the management of bipolar disorder. She has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the Mood Disorders Clinic at the Black Dog Institute and was the subject matter expert for BDI Workplace Mental Health and Wellbeing team at for over 10 years.

She has been a panel member for the NSW Medical board Impaired doctors’ program. Her research areas of interest include e-mental health, bipolar disorder, mental health and wellbeing in Psychiatry Registrars /Doctors and in the workplace. She has presented at conferences and published on her research in International and National peer reviewed scientific journals.

She is a member of Doctors for the Environment, loves the outdoors, admires creativity in others in all mediums and is proud mum of two daughters and too many pets.
